I live by the rule that you never stop learning. This month, I participated in a partnership with Russell Brunson for his new book Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers. I knew it would push me to complete a 30-day challenge, where each day, I would focus on a new aspect of gaining traffic as part of a Book Club type of thing.
Let Your Blog Guide Your Traffic
That sounds like the opposite way of what it should be, but it’s the truth. The better your BLOG, the better your TRAFFIC. The biggest problem that we have, as bloggers or entrepreneurs, is to learn how to drive traffic. How do we bring our customers to our site or our shop? There are so many suggestions out there, some right, but some wrong, on how to do this. Unfortunately, businesses fail when they don’t understand this critical skill: In order to sell your product, you have to bring the traffic. Traffic comes in the form of readers who are eager to read what you have to say.
Your readers are, hands down, your most important asset, so it’s crucial for your readers to have a great experience when visiting your blog! Here are a few ways to increase your traffic by simply giving your readers what they want.
Help Them Understand Why They Are There.
Readers should know exactly what to expect from your content when they land on your blog. Glancing at your home page, they should be able to tell what you write about (your niche), and if your content fits their needs. For example, you may create recipes, but your niche may be 30-minute meals. If your branding clearly reflects that, a busy parent will know they’ve come to just the right place when they reach your blog at 5 pm!
The key to good branding is to figure out what solution or service you’ll be providing for your ideal reader. Some examples are parenting tips, easy recipes, or photography lessons. Once you determine what your niche is, you can create a site and content that revolve around it that niche, both visually and contextually. Your site will become the brand you have created for yourself.
Once people come to know your brand, they’ll often know a post is yours as soon as they see the title. Or, they’ll see an image, and know it’s yours because they recognize your flair in it. That’s branding at its finest.
Be authentic. Be YOU. Don’t aim for perfection.
Your blog will always be evolving, as will you, so now is the time to get started! Readers don’t want perfection or that “picture-perfect story”, they want YOUR story. They want quality content! Don’t wait until you perfect your photography or have mastered SEO before you get started!
Blogs evolve, and both your writing style and knowledge will evolve too. Create quality content that you would want to read yourself. As you learn and grow, posts can always be updated or edited, photos can be redone, methods can be tweaked, and notes can be added as you read your readers’ comments.
Almost all blogs will have content that will need updating as new methods are learned, new skills are acquired, and readers give feedback on their successes and challenges.
Create a Newsletter List… Use it Wisely.
Never let a post go out that doesn’t have a place to collect their emails. Once they are on your list, use it. Write to them.
Write like you are talking to your BEST friend. Include important information so they know who you are and what you are helping them accomplish.
Learn to turn every story into THE story that leaves them thinking about it, wishing they could hear more of it, and picture themselves in it. I remember hearing something similar to this at a conference held by Russell Brunson last year. Russell is a Best-Selling Author & CEO of $100M software company ClickFunnels. While reading Russell’s book Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers, I could relate to much of it. I liked how it is organized like a step-by-step guide, giving you ideas and guidelines for social media, newsletters, funnels, your Dream 100 Customers, and more. Most of all, I love his views on being a good storyteller. I could not agree more.
How to be a Good StoryTeller.
In this new book Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers, there is a lot of importance placed on the idea of being a great storyteller. This skill, among others, will allow you to be at the front of new trends and see opportunities that are invisible to everyone else (you will read more about this in the book). It includes strategies that work to bring in your dream customer… it all starts with you, your readers, and your writing.
Use your newsletter to hook your reader with your story. Tell your story to help your readers see themselves in the story.
- Start out with “I help people to…” So they know they are in the right place.
- Welcome them. Don’t talk like you are talking to the masses… Talk to one person.
- Position your promise. Talk about what’s in it for THEM! Why should they listen to you?
- Who are you? Why are you an expert? Why are you (or the person that you are writing about) the “hero” of the story?
- Share your Hero story with storytelling.
- Storytelling does the selling for you because it connects you to them. They need a before and after. A down and an up. Don’t make it all good or they won’t really be able to relate to you.
- Position the problem. What is their biggest problem and how can my product solve it?
- Position the solution. Give away 3 of your best tips as the solution.
- Call to action. Tell them what you want them to do next. (ex: “please register for my course” or “Please read my book.”)
- Be Vulnerable and talk about your failure. Then…
- Give the end result – how you overcame that failure. This is like a pitch, but one where you are helping them. This is where your story has a happy ending that lets them understand the reason that you wrote. It shows them how you are going to help them… since you’ve been through it yourself.
Believe In Yourself… and Others Will Follow.
Lean in a little, because this is one of the most important things that we can tell you. If we can do this, you can do this. Each and every successful blogger started out exactly where you did. With a new blog, no followers, and no content.
You are able to turn every dream you have into a reality and create the blog of your dreams and beyond. You have a voice and there are people out there just waiting to hear it.
We are always learning and growing, and that allows us to help our readers and change lives.
